Saved at the age of six and called to preach at the age of seventeen, Pastor Boofer has been in the ministry for fifty three years. He was saved at the Dale Baptist Church in Evensville, Tennessee and began his ministry there. After leaving his father’s farm to attend college at Tennessee Temple University, he returned in 1970 to take over as Pastor of his home church, Pleasant Dale Baptist.
During his twelve years as Pastor at Pleasant Dale, the church saw the attendance grow from five people to over 150. In 1981 Pleasant Dale opened up its first Christian School under Pastor Boofer’s direction. Pleasant Dale Baptist also operated a weekly radio broadcast in Rhea County, named by his oldest son Rob, “Showers of Blessings”. Tom Boofer, Pastor Boofer’s father, was saved listening to this broadcast shortly before his death in 1985.
Pastor Boofer has a doctorate in Christian Counseling and a Doctorate in Theology from Freedom University and currently serves on the Action Committee for Baptist International Missions Incorporated.
Dr. Boofer has traveled the world preaching in Missions conferences all over the U.S. and also in many foreign countries. Pastor Boofer has preached in Bible Conferences and Mission Conferences in Japan, England, The Philippines and the Dominican Republic.
Pastor Boofers’ love for missions is a passion that he has shared with the life-long friends he has made in the ministry over his forty-eight years. Guest speakers such as Dr. James Ray, Ray Thompson, Evangelist T. D. Burgess, Eddie Goddard, Tom Messer, Ron Bishop, Ken Trivette, Dr. Dewey Painter, Wayne Williams and many others have been regular guest speakers at churches where he has served.
He attributes his strong biblical beliefs to the testimony of his mother and grandmother who were faithful members of Smyrna Baptist Church and later on, Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in Evensville, Tennessee. He lists Dr. Lee Roberson, Rev. Clyde Paul White, Dr. Arthur M. Estes, J.R. Faulker and Wayne Williams as men who most impacted his life during his years at Pleasant Dale as Youth Pastor and then Pastor.
Pastor Boofer was married in 1968 to Carolyn Creek, they have three children and eight grandchildren.
In February, 2016 Pastor Boofer was excited to be called back to Journey Baptist Church, formerly known as Gospel Light Baptist, in Charleston, South Carolina.
